A bit about my process
Art has always provided me a way to express ideas and emotions that I struggle to convey with language. When I come to the canvas, I begin with an intention. I write the intention on the canvas and then I slowly add layers of color as I explore the expression of the feeling or idea. I develop a relationship with each piece as it progresses.
I primarily work with acrylics but often add charcoal and watercolor crayons in layers to explore how they interact with each other. I love the richness of these tools. Play and experimentation are key elements to my creative process. Using color and texture I work to create a unique energy and voice for each painting.
What began as a way to tune out the noise from the outside world has become a story of self-reflection. What was external in some of my earlier works is evolving into a quiet voice in my paintings that hopefully allows the viewer to grasp the feeling without any specific direction from me. We don’t have to be loud to be heard, we just must be open. When someone is viewing my piece, it is not about me, it is about them and their relationship with the painting in that moment.
